Summer Hours The Counseling Office will be closed during the month of July. During the months of June and August the office will be closed for lunch from 12:00-1:30. Counselors will be gone for the summer and will return on Monday, August 16.
Report Cards Semester report cards will be mailed on Friday, June 18.
Summer School
If your student is currently failing a class required for graduation, it is strongly recommended that the student sign up for summer school. Deadline to register for 2nd semester classes is June 4th. Also, students who received a grade of D or F in previous years should sign up as well. Go to the district summer school site to register. Late registration for first semester classes is June 16th, 9:00-12:00 at Acalanes High School. Late registration for second semester classes is July 7th.

College Athletics
The best resource for information about NCAA sports is The Guide for the College Bound Athlete which can be found at http://eligibilitycenter.org Students who want to play sports in college should register with the NCAA on the web site. Seniors should send a final transcript to the NCAA.
College Visits
Plan for a visit this summer to the colleges or universities that your student is most interested in attending, or even to begin the process of deciding which colleges would be a good fit.
College Essay
The college application essay is an important part of the college process.
During summer students could write a two page essay on their interests, goals or
other topics. See the
University of California application or the
Common Application for the essay topics. Copies are also available in the
College/Career Center.
College Applications
Most colleges now have an application online at the college website. Some
colleges will have their application available for seniors during summer. The
University of California and the California State University application will be
available online in the fall. The
Common Application is also. Hundreds of colleges and universities now
participate.
Testing
Students may
sign up for SAT tests online during summer for the SAT Reasoning Test and
SAT Subject Tests for 2010-11. Our test site fills up quickly and students are
encouraged to sign up early for all the tests. The ACT online registration is at
www.actstudent.org.
Tutors: Lists of student tutors (volunteers) and adult tutors (paid) are available in the College/Career Center. Also, teachers are available at lunch and after school. Click here for the schedule.
Volunteering:
There are many organizations that can help you find a volunteer opportunity that is right for you and your family. VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org/) identifies opportunities that are good for teens, kids, and groups. The Volunteer Center of Alameda and Contra Costa County (www.helpnow.org) is another good source of information about volunteering. See other volunteer opportunities posted in the College/Career Center.
Keep in mind for next school year the following request from WCI: Afternoons (3:15-6:00) we provide a quiet space with textbooks and one staff member to help students with their homework. Most students only need occasional help but new 6th graders really find the experience of keeping a planner and sorting through the assignments in their multiple periods a tad daunting. We would love to have a Las Lomas student or two here in the afternoon to help the WCI students. A quarterly commitment would be appropriate, even an hour a week (the same hour and day preferred) that would be a tremendous help. Starting time anywhere between 3:00 and 4:00 would be best. We hope that Las Lomas students will think of their middle school alma mater and our program for community service.
