I have the great pleasure of advising the Las Lomas community that we have five National Merit Finalists from the Class of 2010. These students will be graduating in the top 8,200 Seniors nationally this year! While these students will be honored at a later date, I would like to give them all public recognition in this newsletter. Please join me in congratulating the following National Merit Finalists for 2010: Zoe Eng, Christina Kulyk, Melissa Regalia, Theo Rossi, and Neal Williams. I have also been advised that we had two students selected to the County Honor Jazz
Band. Please join me in congratulating Kirby Cool (Piano) and Kyle Ong (Alto Sax). This time of year I hear of many honors given to members of our community and it is news I love to get and share!
As I write this article, students in grades 9-11 are in the process of selecting classes for next year. As previously announced, due to the current budget situation, students are being limited to picking six classes and a seventh as an alternative. Should the issue of funding get better in May, we will look at adding a seventh class for students who requested one. Beginning March 2, 2010, we will have students and parents from the Class of 2014 (the current 8th graders at WCI) on campus to begin choosing their classes and taking that first important step to becoming Knights! I want to welcome our newest families. You are coming to a wonderful school and I look forward to meeting you.
I am encountering an increasing number of private businesses, mainly pizza restaurants, coming to campus to deliver food that has been ordered by students and parents. Please note that we cannot allow this. Las Lomas has food service on campus to purchase and, in order to ensure the safety of our students, cannot allow non-parents or non-students on campus. We have been turning these vendors away and I ask the help of parents to ensure that we keep the campus closed to non-Las Lomas community members.
