PTSA President's Message

At our monthly meeting this week, the Las Lomas PTSA unanimously endorsed Measure A. We thank those parents, students and teachers who attended the meeting. Please vote Yes on Measure A:  The state's continuing financial crisis is forcing our district to make severe budget cuts.  (See "Explaining Our High School District's Budget Crisis" for a clear and concise explanation.)  Measure A, the emergency mail-in parcel tax, would raise $4M to avoid these cuts.  Visit www.AboutMeasureA.org for more information.

At Monday's PTSA meeting, the Nominating Committee presented the following proposed slate of Las Lomas PTSA Officers for the 2010-11 term:

Co-Presidents:  Sherri McGoff and Jill Buschini

1st VP, Programs: Liz Bettis

2nd VP, Ways and Means:  Theresa Stetson Burke

3rd VP, Services:  Allison Ridenhour

4th VP, Communications:  Carolyn Boord

5th VP, Articulation:  Mary Holzheimer

Recording Secretary:  OPEN

Treasurer:  Joanne Hernandez

Auditor:  Loraine McDonald

Elections will be held at the April 12th PTSA meeting.  Questions can be directed to Dana Carrigan, Nominating Committee Chair at dlcarrigan@sbcglobal.net.

Measure A
Vote Yes on Measure A
Emergency measure to raise nearly $4M needed to avoid severe cuts at Las Lomas High School

Our award-winning high school district has managed to remain #1 in the state despite three years of significant cuts. As high school parents, it's difficult to watch firsthand the consequences of the latest wave of budget cuts as our children struggle to get the class schedules they need and possibly say goodbye to beloved teachers.

Here's what you can do to help:
  • Advocate for our excellent schools by getting to know the facts and spreading the word.
  • Encourage your student to get involved (find out how on the student-run Facebook group).
  • Endorse Measure A online to avoid the phone bank call.
  • Get involved in the campaign. Contact Sharon Taplin at sgtaplin@comcast.net or Mary Holzheimer at mary@gsacorp.com for more info.
  • Vote Yes on Measure A (ballots to arrive early April and must be mailed by April 28th).
Everyone needs to do all they can. Be sure to read Superintendent John Stockton's message on how our teachers have contributed to cost-saving measures.

At $112 per parcel (less than 31 cents per day), Measure A is a temporary and reasonable response to this immediate funding crisis. It will sunset in five years, and offers an exemption for residents age 65 and older. 100% of Measure A funds go directly to classrooms and the support kids get from librarians and counselors.

For more information, visit www.AboutMeasureA.org.
